4 Simple Ways You Can Inspire your team
I have lived in 12 countries and I have met hundreds of different types of people. What I noticed is that humans are all very complex but also have the same inherent needs. Everyone wants to feel understood and when they feel pressure or fear they start to protect themselves by shutting down and feeling disempowered. This is a natural part of our make-up as humans. We flourish when we have someone who is curious about how we are doing something and is engaged with our process. It makes us feel understood. The mistake that most leaders make in a organisation is that they are running around being busy and when they go to have a conversation with someone they don't stop to reset themselves so that they can get into a state of curiosity because they are worried about the other stuff that is swimming around in their heads. One of the key parts of coaching is how to reset yourself so that you can inspire the team. It doesn't solve all of the problems but you are more resourced.
So it doesn't matter if you are from Argentina, Canada or Austria you are going to be disconnected from people if you don't learn how to reset so that you can inspire them.
It can be challenging to show up in this way every day so having a coach to point out your blind spots in crucial to this.
Check out the list below and check in with yourself if you are honestly doing these things as well as you could..
Lead by Example:
Demonstrate the values and work ethic you expect from your team members because you are making choices that are inline with the culture you want to create. Be the message and your team will be able to model off you. Show dedication, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to the company’s goals. When your team sees you actively engaged and passionate about your work, they are more likely to be inspired to follow suit. You also have a responsibility to ‘Live your best life’. Showing your team how engage at life by enjoying yourself can create a real knock-on effect.
Effective Communication:
Clear and open communication is key to inspiring a team. Share the vision and goals of the team, and make sure everyone understands their role in achieving those objectives. Be transparent about challenges and successes, and encourage feedback. When team members feel informed and involved, they are more likely to feel motivated and inspired.
Recognize and Acknowledge Achievements:
Celebrate both individual and team accomplishments. Recognize and reward hard work and success, whether big or small. Acknowledging achievements boosts morale and creates a positive and motivating atmosphere. It also reinforces the idea that each team member's contributions are valued and essential to the overall success of the team.
Encourage Creativity and Innovation:
Foster an environment that encourages creativity and innovation. Give your team the autonomy to explore new ideas and approaches. Provide opportunities for brainstorming and collaboration. When team members feel that their ideas are valued and that they have the freedom to contribute to the team's success in unique ways, they are more likely to be inspired and engaged.
To be able to show up in this way effectively we need to learn how to ‘reset’ ourselves every time me have a conversation with someone else and also be in the mental headspace to inspire. That can mean setting up a mourning routine that gets you in the game before work or creating space in your diary to consciously connect in with each team member or the team as a whole.
